For our Country Program Office in Cameroon, we are looking for two (02) dynamic and committed Field Biologists volunteers to the implementation of its Jengi TRIDOM program activities in the Boumba-Bek National Park (BB NP).
Under the supervision of the: Park Assistant Boumba-bek
Based at: Yokadouma
Duration: one year (1 year)
Missions / Responsabilités / Activités
Department Mission:
WWF CCPO's mission is to ensure the sustainable management of natural resources in Southeast
Cameroon through participatory management practices involving all stakeholders and contribute to the
improvement of the living conditions of local populations.
Main Functions
The Volunteer Field Biologists will be responsible for collecting all bio-monitoring data in the field in
collaboration with the MINFOF team and local assistants (monitoring of large and medium-sized
mammals, monitoring of wildlife use of clearings, monitoring of wildlife using camera traps, collection of
data on human-wildlife conflicts, mapping of elephant corridors, etc.)
In this capacity, he/she works under the direct technical supervision of the PNBB Jengi-TRIDOM Park
Assistant, and to some extent the Program Executor for related activities:
- Produce periodic RDTs and a budget for field activities;
- Provide technical assistance for the implementation of the bio-monitoring protocol;
- Ensure the implementation of the continuous ecological monitoring system in the targeted clearings of the PNBB with the collection of data following scientific protocols;
- Participate, under the supervision of the PNBB Park Assistant, in the organization and management of the appropriate use of the bio-monitoring database and related tools and ensure the proper storage of field materials;
- Participate in periodic planning sessions to identify information needs and provide technical support;
- Participate in the collection of data on human-wildlife conflicts to update the Jengi TRIDOM program database;
- Produce concise and well-written field reports on a regular basis.
Compétences / Exigences / Qualités
Functional skills required
- Bachelor's degree or engineering degree in one or more of the following areas: Forestry and Wildlife or other related specialization;
- Minimum 6 months’ experience in biomonitoring field activities;
- Strong interest in nature conservation.
Skills and competencies required
- Willingness and ability to work in a remote area with little supervision;
- Field person: enthusiastic about long missions in the forest under difficult and remote conditions;
- Excellent physical condition;
- Ability to adapt, flexibility;
- Demonstrated knowledge of GPS and SIG related software, Cybertracker/SMART and related tools;
- Good knowledge of camera trapping, wildlife observation and photo analysis
- Demonstrated statistical and data analysis skills (Excel, other relevant software);
- Ability to manage databases;
- Computer literacy, knowledge of data analysis software;
- Excellent writing skills;
- Adhere to WWF values: Respect, Courage, Integrity and Collaboration.
Working Relationships:
In-house
Collaborate with other key WWF technical staff in the Jengi TRIDOM program.
Externally
Work in collaboration with the Conservation Department, local community assistants (ASMOs and IPLCs).
