A Chief Geologist, the incumbent will play a crucial role in the geological exploration and development of this major iron ore extraction project. This position is essential to ensure that the ore extraction process is optimised, while respecting environmental considerations and ensuring the safety of workers.

Missions / Responsabilités / Activités
- Oversee all geological exploration, ore testing and data interpretation for the project.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, environmental scientists and other professionals to ensure effective ore identification and extraction.
- Excellent oral and written French and English language skills.
- Develop and maintain detailed geological models and mine plans that align with the project's two-phase development plan.
- In the first phase, the plan is expected to enable the production of 10 million tonnes of iron ore per annum. In the second phase, the plans should take into account the expansion of production to 25 million tonnes per year.
- Ensure the safe and efficient extraction of iron ore, maintaining compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations, as well as international best practice.
- Work closely with the mining engineer to ensure geological data is accurately incorporated into the mine design.
- Collaborate with environmental experts to minimise the environmental impact of geological exploration and mining operations.
- Continuously monitor geological processes, identify potential problems or areas for improvement, and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and safety.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of geological activities, including reports, graphs, charts and presentations. These documents will be used to inform stakeholders of project progress and provide data for future projects.
Compétences / Exigences / Qualités
- Master's degree in geology or related field. A PhD or relevant certification would be a plus.
- Significant experience in a geologist role, ideally within the mining industry. Experience in iron ore mining would be particularly advantageous.
- Excellent spoken and written French and English
- In-depth understanding of geological processes and best practice, with a focus on efficiency, safety and environmental responsibility.
- Proficiency in geological software systems used for data interpretation and mine design.
- Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills. The ability to make data driven decisions and anticipate and mitigate potential problems is essential.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills. The ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders including suppliers, contractors and internal teams is crucial. Leadership skills are important to manage teams and coordinate efforts.
- Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines. The mining industry can be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring a professional who can manage stress and make sound decisions quickly.
